Small wheel attachment (for gen 1 grinder)

Small wheel attachments are useful any time you need to grind an internal radius. Great for grinding finger notches in a handle (such as a knife handle), notching the end of a pipe to form a T-joint…and just general fabrication of parts. Wheels are readily available online and are usually made from steel or rubber, in a range of sizes from 1/4″ to 2″. My design uses this small wheel holder to simplify the build, and recommend getting your wheels from the same seller (I got this set, which includes the holder and a set of small wheels). As with all of the add-ons for my belt grinder, the small wheel attachment is designed to hold the wheel directly in line with the hinge, so it is compatible with all of the tables and jigs that I have made, regardless of the grinder’s orientation. To see how I made it, watch the video below:

If you have a Gen 1 Tilting Belt Grinder and would like to build this attachment for it, you can download a Sketchup model of it below, as well as a PDF plan. This attachment is not compatible with the Gen 2 belt grinder. Click here to see the Gen 2 design.
