In my recent video about my Modular Shop Cabinet System, I showed a drawer filled with 75mm square cardboard boxes, which I use to store hardware. Many commenters expressed interest in these, so I put together a build video and a set of plans. The boxes are very simple and easy to make, but they’re actually quite sturdy and nice, as long as you start with good cardboard.
Design highlights
Cheap, easy, & sustainable
By using common corrugated cardboard, these boxes can be made virtually for free (just the cost of hot glue sticks). They only take a few minutes to make, and they’re made from literal garbage, so you can feel good about not wasting materials.
Jigs make them repeatable
To perfectly fill a drawer with boxes, it’s important for them to be very consistent in size. Using a template to cut out the cardboard makes the blanks repeatable, and folding them all around the same form makes the finished shape repeatable.
Detailed PDF plans
I put together a PDF plan to help you make these boxes yourself. The plans can be relevant for making boxes of any size, not just those for my drawer system. You can view or download the plans for free by clicking the button below.
