Viewer Belt grinders

This page is dedicated to showing off viewers’ finished belt grinders. I like seeing all the variations on my design, and the different ways people set up the machine in their shop. If you’ve built a belt grinder from my plans and would like to see it featured here, feel free to email me photos of it!

I finished this project based on your excellent plans in about a week. I’ll second that a portaband was a lifesaver. BlackBearForge has a video on a portaband stand that helped improve the quality of my cuts immensely. I avoided the expense of McMaster Carr parts by buying C-259 springs on eBay and welding round rod to bolts for tightening handles. You will want to mount this to a solid foundation and preferably be able to access the front and right side of the machine to take advantage of all orientations. Thanks again, Jeremy! – Brian from USA
“This was a great project – I did this over a couple of months after salvaging a treadmill motor. As a precursor I built a portaband table – it was a god sent. I also have a little 1×30 grinder and powerfile that was very handy. I had challenges finding the OD for the tracker and tensioner in Australia – I ended up drilling out some 22mm solid round stock – this worked ok – I had to split and weld the 72mm section. The end result is that I now own a heavy duty 2×72 grinder that tracks well and is mega fun to use. I’m now going to move on to making the contact wheel attachment and in the future, the small wheel attachment… but before I get to this, I might actually make a knife or two.” – Rob from Australia
